Dyson Vacuum Repair Questions

Here you'll find the answers to the most common questions about vacuum cleaner repairs, servicing and maintenance.

My Dyson or Vacuum Cleaner Has Lost Suction – What Should I Check?

Has your Dyson or vacuum cleaner stopped picking up dirt? Does it have poor suction, or perhaps it picks up through the hose but not from the floor head? IS your Dyson or Vacuum cleaner pulsing?

If so, there are a few simple checks you can carry out before booking a repair:

  • Check for any obvious blockages in the hose, wand, floor head or airways.

  • Wash and thoroughly dry all filters in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Inspect the hose for splits, cracks or damage that could be causing an air leak.

If you've completed these checks and the problem persists, it may be time for a professional service. A full service involves a complete strip-down, deep clean and sanitisation of the machine, followed by reassembly and inspection for any worn, damaged or faulty components that could be affecting performance.

Why Does My Dyson Keep Cutting Out?

Has your Dyson or vacuum cleaner started cutting out during use? Have you already replaced the battery but the problem is still occurring?

The first thing to determine is exactly how the machine is behaving.

Is the machine switching off completely?
If so, this could indicate a battery fault, a motor issue, an electrical fault, or a problem with the machine's internal connections.

Is the machine pulsing before it cuts out?
A pulsing sound is often caused by a blockage restricting airflow. Many Dyson models are designed to protect themselves by reducing power or shutting down when airflow becomes restricted. However, pulsing can also be caused by a failing battery or motor.

Before booking a repair, check the following:

  • Inspect the wand, hose, bin and floor head for blockages.

  • Wash and fully dry all filters.

  • Check for any visible damage to the machine.

  • If available, try a second battery to see if the fault remains.

If the machine works correctly with a different battery, the original battery is likely at fault. If the machine continues to cut out, further diagnosis will be required to identify the cause.

If you are purchasing a replacement battery, we strongly recommend using a genuine manufacturer's battery wherever possible. Pattern or aftermarket batteries can sometimes cause similar faults, provide reduced performance, or lead to additional issues over time.

If you've completed these checks and the problem persists, a professional inspection can help identify the exact cause and prevent unnecessary replacement of parts.

Why Is My Dyson or Vacuum Battery Not Charging?

Has your Dyson vacuum cleaner stopped charging? Or does it seem to lose power very quickly despite being fully charged?

There are a few simple checks you can carry out before booking a repair.

Check the charger

When you connect the charger, does the machine show any indication that it is charging? Depending on the model, this may be a flashing light or another charging indicator.

If there is no response at all, the fault could be with the charger, battery or charging circuit.

Try a second battery

If you have access to a spare battery, connect it to the charger and see if it shows any signs of charging.

  • If the spare battery charges normally, your original battery is likely to be faulty.

  • If neither battery charges, the charger may be at fault, although it is still possible for both batteries to have faults.

Try a second charger

If you have a spare charger available, repeat the test using the second charger.

If the machine begins charging normally, the original charger is likely to be the cause of the problem.

If you've carried out these checks and are still unsure, it may be time for a professional inspection. We can test the charger, battery and machine to accurately identify the fault and recommend the most cost-effective repair.

Why does my Dyson Not Last Very Long?

Does your Dyson or cordless vacuum cleaner run out of power after only a few minutes? Or does it seem to lose charge much faster than it used to?

The first thing to check is the power mode you are using. Most cordless vacuum cleaners have multiple suction settings, such as Eco, Medium/Auto and Boost/Max.

If you regularly use the machine on Boost or Max mode, a shorter run time is completely normal as the battery is working much harder. Try switching to Eco or Medium mode and see whether the battery lasts longer.

If the battery still runs out quickly, even on lower power settings, it may be reaching the end of its lifespan. Like all rechargeable batteries, Dyson batteries naturally lose capacity over time and will eventually need replacing.

Other signs of a failing battery can include:

  • Reduced run time.

  • The machine cutting out unexpectedly.

  • The battery not holding a full charge.

  • Flashing warning lights on the machine.

Where possible, we always recommend using genuine batteries, as aftermarket alternatives can sometimes offer reduced performance, shorter lifespan and may even cause additional faults.

If you're unsure whether the battery is at fault, we can carry out further testing to identify the cause and advise on the most cost-effective solution.

Why has my Dyson Head Stopped Spinning?

Has your Dyson floor head stopped working? Is the brush bar or roller no longer spinning?

This is a common fault that can affect many Dyson and other vacuum cleaner models. The cause can vary depending on the machine, but there are several simple checks you can carry out before booking a repair.

Check the following:

  • Remove any hair, string or debris wrapped around the brush bar.

  • Check for a snapped or damaged belt (where applicable).

  • Make sure the brush bar rotates freely and has not seized.

  • Check whether your machine or floor head has a reset button.

  • Inspect the wiring and connections for any visible damage.

  • Check the electrical contacts between the machine, wand and floor head.

  • Ensure there is no dampness or water damage within the floor head.

  • Check for blockages that may be preventing the brush bar from operating correctly.

If you have completed these checks and the brush bar still isn't spinning, the fault may lie with the floor head motor, wiring, electronics or another internal component.

At this stage, we would recommend booking your machine in for a diagnostic inspection so that the exact cause can be identified and repaired.

How much does a Dyson / Vacuum repair cost?

The cost of a repair can vary depending on the fault and the work required. Because every machine is different, we are unable to provide an exact repair cost until the vacuum cleaner has been inspected.

If your Dyson or vacuum cleaner simply requires a service, our Full Service is priced at £49.99 + VAT. A Full Service for a Carpet Cleaner is £69.99 + VAT.

If your machine has a fault and you're unsure what is causing the issue, we recommend booking it in for an MOT & Diagnostic Inspection. The cost of this is £20.00 + VAT, payable when the machine is dropped off.

Once we have inspected your vacuum cleaner, we will contact you with our findings and provide a quotation before any repair work is carried out.

Should you decide to proceed with the repair, the MOT & Diagnostic charge will be deducted from the final repair bill, meaning you only pay it once.

If you have any questions about pricing or would like advice before booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

How long does a repair take?

The time required to complete a repair will depend on the type of work being carried out and the condition of the machine.

As a guide, our Full Vacuum Services are usually completed within 3–5 working days. During particularly busy periods, this may increase to up to 7 working days, although we will always advise you if this is likely to be the case.

Our Dyson Hair Dryer and Airwrap repairs and services are typically completed within 48 hours, although this may occasionally take longer if specific parts need to be ordered.

For repair-only bookings, we aim to complete most work within 24–48 hours of approval.

If your machine is booked in for an MOT & Diagnostic Inspection, we aim to carry this out within 24 hours of receiving the machine. Once we have identified the fault, we will contact you with our findings and discuss the expected repair timescale before any work is carried out.

Dyson fan repairs can vary considerably depending on the fault and any parts required. Once we have diagnosed the issue, we will provide an estimated repair timescale before any work is carried out.

Please note that all timescales are estimates and can occasionally be affected by factors outside our control. For example, if specific parts need to be ordered, additional time may be required for delivery.

We will keep you updated throughout the process and will always let you know if there are any unexpected delays.
